Why We Built Haven
A company built on a simple belief: no qualified healthcare institution should be unable to source a critical medicine because the procurement process is too complex to navigate safely.
The Beginning
A Solvable Problem That Nobody Had Solved
Haven didn't start with a technology idea. It started with a question: why is it so difficult for qualified healthcare institutions to source critical medicines when domestic supply runs short?
The medicines exist. Legitimate international suppliers have them. And yet, procurement teams — especially at smaller institutions — routinely fail to source shortage-affected drugs not because supply doesn't exist, but because the process of verifying regulatory compliance, confirming GMP documentation, checking import pathways, and maintaining the audit trail is simply too burdensome without dedicated infrastructure.
This isn't an edge case. In Canada alone, the number of reported drug shortages has grown steadily for over a decade. Across North America and Europe, the pattern is consistent: concentrated manufacturing, just-in-time supply chains, and a compliance landscape that assumes large institution procurement teams are managing every purchase.

The Problem We Saw
Procurement Teams Were Doing the Impossible
Procurement teams at independent clinics, community pharmacies, and private healthcare facilities face a structural disadvantage. They must source medicines from global suppliers — because domestic supply has run short — but must do so while complying with domestic regulations designed around established distributor relationships, not emergency international sourcing.
In practice, this means days or weeks of manual research: Is this supplier GMP-certified? Is this product on Health Canada's approved drug list? What import documentation is required? What's the realistic landed cost after freight, duties, and brokerage? Is there a record of this transaction if the institution is audited?
For large hospital systems with dedicated procurement departments, this is burdensome. For a three-physician clinic or a community pharmacy serving thousands of patients, it is often simply not possible.
The Decision
We Decided to Build the Infrastructure
Haven Life Sciences Inc. was founded on the belief that the right technology can make it safe and operationally viable for any qualified healthcare institution to access shortage-affected medicines — regardless of institutional size.
This is not a consumer platform. Haven is not a pharmacy. Haven is compliance infrastructure: a controlled B2B environment that integrates regulatory intelligence from Health Canada, the FDA, and international databases; verified supplier data with GMP documentation; landed cost modelling; and a compliant procurement workflow that creates the documentation trail every institution needs.
We are building it step by step, in the right order. First, prove that the platform solves the access and compliance problem for real institutions. Then expand the supplier network. Then build manufacturing relationships where demand justifies it. We do not skip steps.

That means building not just a procurement portal, but over time, a network of pre-qualified suppliers, a proprietary medicines portfolio, and — where the market has consistently failed patients — manufacturing capacity in categories with proven unmet demand.
